How to Use

Shopping (In Store)
Pay the regular price including tax when you make your purchase.
Show your passport or other immigration permit (original only; copies are not accepted) at the counter. -
Register with the App
Register your passport and purchase details via the "PIE VAT" app.

Customs Procedures at Departure (Airport)
When departing Japan, you will be required to complete customs procedures at the airport.
Show your app and purchased items at the customs counter or at a designated KIOSK (tax refund terminal). -
Tax Refund
Once customs verification is completed, the consumption tax will be refunded to your registered bank account or credit card.
You can track the refund progress with the app.
Eligible Customers
- Foreign travelers staying in Japan for less than 6 months
- Total purchase amount of ¥5,500 (tax included) or more
- Items must be taken out of Japan unused
Please Note
- Customs verification at the airport is REQUIRED. Registering in the PIE VAT app alone DOES NOT complete the refund process.
- Please make sure both the PIE VAT app registration and the airport procedures are completed by yourself.
